Wild About Math! Making Math fun and accessible

Cool calculator contest!

Texas Instruments (TI) and Wild About Math! are collaborating on a new exciting contest. It's about Math but in a different, but still creative way. TI will be donating two of their high-end CAS calculators to two of you. This is a truly advanced calculator. The TI-Nspire CAS state-of-the-art computer algebra system is useful for step-by-step, arithmetic, algebraic and calculus calculations and helps calculator users see the patterns and grasp the math behind formulas.

What's the contest about? Read on.

Read up on the capabilities of the TI-Nspire CAS calculator. Make sure you understand what the calculator can do. Write a short description -- one or two paragraphs -- telling what super cool thing you'd do with a TI-Nspire CAS calculator. I'll choose the two ideas I think are the coolest and TI will send two of you a TI-Nspire CAS calculator, anywhere in the world.

You have one month to send me your best idea.

Here are the contest rules:

  1. Email your idea to sol dot lederman at gmail dot com.
  2. Only one entry and only one idea per person.
  3. Sol will be the sole judge of "coolness." Coolness is a highly subjective term. Think "clever," "interesting," "fun," and "original." Sol's decision will be final.
  4. Your idea should demonstrate that you understand the capabilities of the TI-Nspire CAS calculator.
  5. The deadline to submit your idea is Monday, April 6, 12:01AM, Pacific Time. (That’s Monday morning, not Monday night.)
  6. The two winners agree to have their names and ideas published in this blog.
  7. The winners will be announced Monday, April 13, 2009.
  8. The winners will receive a TI-Nspire CAS calculator.
  9. Comments for this post should only be used to clarify the contest. Please do not discuss your specific ideas.
